In winter,in Maria Trens everything revolves around snow – how could it be otherwise? White, soft and perfect for winter sports, such as skiing in the Rosskopf/Monte Cavallo and Racines-Giovo ski areas, cross-country skiing in the Alta Val di Vizze valley, winter hiking, tobogganing, ice skating or discovering the surrounding mountain peaks on a panoramic ski tour.
Another winter experience that is not to be missed: a visit to the Christmas market in Vipiteno.
Our winter tips …
Rosskopf/ Monte Cavallo ski area
Varied, sunny and family-friendly. The Rosskopf/Monte Cavallo ski area lies just a few minutes’ drive from Maria Trens and welcomes you with 20 kilometres of ski slopes of every degree of difficulty. At the valley station there is a ski rental point. And, since fresh mountain air makes hungry, many alpine huts in this area will pamper you with delicious South Tyrolean specialities. Enjoy your meal!
Vipiteno Christmas Market
“Christmas bells”- that’s the theme of this year’s Christmas market in Vipiteno, which every year attracts many visitors to the alpine city. This is the time of the year when the houses of the Old Town are decorated with many small lights, the streets are filled with Christmas songs, the smell of mulled wine pervades the air and beautiful handicrafts from the region are displayed on the market stalls.
The 10 km long snowy toboggan run on Rosskopf/Monte Cavallo is one of the longest natural toboggan runs in South Tyrol. Once here, you can’t miss the night tobogganing: two evenings a week in the winter season the track is illuminated and stays open until midnight. Of course, the surrounding mountain huts also will close later than usual!
